Mahalo for joining us, Lahaina!
Maui County needs your input on what should be included in the recovery plan for your neighborhoods.
For each of the 10 planning topics below we have 2 questions:
- What needs to STAY THE SAME when the community is rebuilt?
- What needs to CHANGE?
- Cultural and Historic Resources – Places and moʻolelo that have a cultural or historic significance to the people of Lahaina.
- Natural Resources and Resiliency – Resources and systems that allow Lahaina to thrive and practices that make the community more resistant to disasters and the effects of climate change.
- Public Lands – Places owned by government entities and how they should be utilized in the future.
- Community Services - The services that meet the everyday needs of the Lahaina community whether keiki, kūpuna or somewhere in between.
- Housing - Places for Lahaina residents to live, regardless of income.
- Community Design - The way Lahaina will look and feel when the rebuild is complete.
- Streets - The way residents move through Lahaina, whether on foot, bike, wheelchair, bus, or a personal vehicle.
- Utilities - The key services like water, sewer and electricity that make a community function.
- Public Safety - The services and systems a community needs during an emergency.
- All Thoughts Matter - Any topic or idea that doesn't fall into the other categories.
You are welcome to address as many topics as you'd like, but, please try to add your ideas to at least 4 or 5 of the topics that are most important to you.
